Default Fuel pressure regulator bad?

Ok so I took out the FPR and sucked through the top (where the vac hose connects to, and the air tasted like gas, but it still held pressure, does that mean the FPR was bad because of the gas taste? Or is it still good because it was holding pressure?.... I wish I would've asked this on here before I took the intake off and bought the new parts

A fuel smell (or taste) on the vacuum side of the FPR usually indicates a leaky diaphragm. Bad FPR.
