i have a 95 ext cab 4x4 with auto transmission and when i bought it everything ran smoothly up untill yesterday when it started to jerk and loss of power at lower speeds and when starting off at a stop light and then today i completely lost power to my rear wheels and her nothing but grinding .... i had to stick it in 4wd to get her back home when i went underneth nothing was leaking nothing was burning hot i want to say it sounds like the rear differential is toast but is there any other ideas ?

Lift the rear and turn the wheels, feel and listen to see if anything is wrong. Sounds like ring and pinion went bad. Also when the rear goes bad it does not necessarily get hot.
