So I just picked up a 94 F150 inline 6, 4 speed auto with a E40d. The issue I ran into when picking it up was that it wouldn't go into reverse, when in drive it won't change gears it just staying in first. Also when I put it in natural it is still in drive. I only have park and drive (1st gear only) I was told to try a TCM. Where would you start?

 

I would check the linkages, end to end and see what is moving when you shift and where things are.

Then go from there.
