94 5.0 f150 overdirve issues

i have had what i believe to be is a problem with the overdrive on my f150 but since its my first Ford truck im unaware of the normal quirps they have, anyway the overdrive does not kick in until about 55-60 mph, sometimes i have to let off the gas to get it to engage. furthermore when its shifting it seems to be slow. im not sure what type of trans i have in her but shes a 2wd 5.0 f150, i looked at the trans pan to see if i could get some type of number but all i found was "METRIC" and Ford logo under. i check the fluid often and it seems to be full and nice clear reddish pink color

i looked at the door sticker and under "trans" i got code U=4r70w but the way the truck runs and drives i would bet they have been replaced.

Pull codes yet? Thats where I would start.

ETA: It could be an issue with the TPS or something completely seperate from the trans.

no i never tried pulling codes, my trans "off" light does not blink any codes OD on or off will the SES blink codes for the trans?

would the truck experience issues with all the gears shifting weird if the tps is bad? im not knocking the suggestion id probably replace it anyway since it has over 250k

From what I've read yes the TPS could cause lots of issues. As for codes, use the KOEO/KOER test and see if you get anything. There is a sticky in this community on how to run it. Also, I don't know if that trans had it or not but your year model and earlier had issues with the MLPS (just recently changed mine) so that's another route to look into.

thanks for the advice i never ran codes cause the idiot who had her before me removed the bulb so i had no idea there were issues, i took a video of the KOEO i also own a foxbody Mustang 5.0 so im well aware of how to run both KOEO and KOER lol anyway it looks like i got a 121=TPS, 334=vacuum regulator (?? shes 2wd), and 542=fuel pump circuit fail (im unsure of this cause both tanks function
any thoughts are appreciated
BTW whats MLPS???

It's essentially a neutral safety switch (forget what the letters actually stand for) on the side if the trans. Up through 94 there were issues with the connectors getting water damage easily and Ford put out a TSB for them. I'm not sure if your trans falls in the TSB but I know the E4OD had an upgraded connector to wire up to the stock harness. Wouldn't hurt to take the connector off and see it's condition. As for the other codes, time to do some troubleshooting :D

thanks for the info, i googled it and it stands for manual lever position sensor. ill take a look at the connector today. i went out and bought a new TPS and throttle body gasket kit, im gonna run a bypass for the TB coolant passages for right now too. due to my funds and not getting paid till this friday im doing little at a time, but hopefully this will help with my overdrive issues

You shouldn't need to disconnect the coolant lines from the TB. I did mine not 3 weeks ago and you should be able to fold down the TB with plenty of room to unscrew the TPS with a nubby screwdriver. That way you don't have to worry about draining/losing coolant.

i looked under and this is what i have on my trans, connections do look pretty clean, how can i tell if the TSB was done on my truck? i put the TPS on and wow amazing difference idles nice, smooth, and quiet. shifts even better then before. overdrive does kick in on its own now, but unless its the way it was designed its kicking in at 55-60mph and its slow like it hangs a second before overdrive comes in
