Default 93' f150 4.9L transmission slipping

I was recently traveling up a small mountain pass and my engine started revving high and not shifting from 2nd to third.. i made it up the hill and got to the bottom and checked trans fluid which checked out in perfect quantity and in good condition. checked my oil level which was quite low so i added more than a quart and continued on my way with no problems the rest of my drive and eventually had to go back up that mountain and all was fine. How is it the engine oil would effect the shifting?

It wouldn't, unless it was leaking onto a clutch. Which transmission does the truck have? Click this & read the caption:

Early E4ODs are known to have many problems, at least until the first time they're rebuilt. Has yours been rebuilt yet? Read the list of TSBs at the bottom of this caption:

They also respond MUCH better to genuine MotorCraft Mercon than to any other ATF.
