Default E4OD leaking around bell housing, Leaky Pump?

Story time! So I have had my 96 5.8 4x4 ext cab. For about a month now. I took it of road around a week and a half ago, and got stuck in mud up to my doors. The next day I changed my tranny fluid and it was clean, reused the old pan gasket and went about my day. Just Friday my truck was stalling in reverse and manual 1st, so I checked my tranny fluid and it was low. Went to oreiliys and got a new filter and gasket for the pan thinking it leaked out the pan with the old gasket and changed it last night. Then today on my twenty mile trip home from town I noticed some faint smoke behind my truck. Pulled over, couldn't find anything and thought maybe my truck was running a little rich. Got home and pulled it up on the ramps to check the pan and noticed tranny fluid leaking out in a stream on the bottom of the bell housing. Went to town in my moms car to get tranny fluid and Lucas stuff to stop leaks, put it in and so far no luck. While there they told me it sounded like my pump was leaking, and it needed new seals or a new pump. I thought ok I read about that somewhere, so hoped the addictive for stoping leaks would work until summer break. But so far no luck. So, I am on a high school part time job budget, what is the best and cheapest way to go about fixing whatever my leak is, and what should I do while I have it open that I can afford. Thanks, and I have a video of my tranny, but it wasn't leaking hardly at all, it only does it after running it for a while. It also makes a rattle in park or neutral, and my ranger did it when I had it in neutral, but it was manual. Now my f150 sounds like it is doing it in drive slightly above idle going down my driveway. Is this problem one and the same with my leak? It did this before getting stuck too, and I had a slight leak also. Thanks for reading my long post and hope I get this fixed, will be doing it myself, with a friend and occasional help from my dad.

Brandon, take a little crocus cloth to clean the area were the torque converter rides on the seal and a dab of permatex where the seal sits in the pump. Put a little tranny fluid on the rubber before you slide the converter in.

Thanks for the reply. This is after replacing the seals correct? And I also need to replace my rear seal in the tranny and all seals in the transfercase while i have it off, they all have slow leaks but nothing like my front of the tranny did. It would poor out after it got warmed up. Others are just slow regular expected leaks

Got the tranny almost off, have top two bolts on the bellhousing to get off, being a pain in the butt, then have to lower off the tranny off the truck. Trying to find best way to put jack on, have a tranny jack but doesn't seem to want to fit right anywhere right, looks like it was made for a chevy. Cant unbolt torque converter, one bolt is cross threaded and just spins so gonna have to pull of with it still bolted up.

So I got the transmission off today, and my dad helped me put the tranny jack on. We ended up taking the pan off and cutting wooden blocks to fit and rested it on the tranny jack, couldn't find anyway to do it otherwise, with the jack we had anyway. I hope it won't hurt anything though. Me and my friend had two floor jacks on the transfer case and worked it down with that and the front tranny jack. Replacing the pump seal and oring seals tomorrow, then putting back together and back on the truck. Any tips would be appreciated.

Make sure you check the input seal and the output shaft on the torque converter. That shaft tends to crack around the notches and chew up the seal
