UPDATE :
1aauto.com was out of the parts last week.... I registered my needs with them ...and today they sent me email letting me know they were in stock... and I ordered from them.
When you add a part to your cart you have to say what vehicle it is meant for... so each one is checked as you go through the order process....
Ten piece suspension and steering , radius arm bushings, front and rear shocks for $229 with free shipping.... .about five day delivery promised. but I am not in a hurry.. was just glad to find the parts available online after all the false leads.

I am experiencing steering wander, and was just going to shotgun everything. I found this: ("https://www.1aauto.com/1987-96-ford-...1085084&y=1996") thanks for the help!!

I should have checked NAPA in the course of looking for my parts... but I just called them and they introduced a real mystery into the mix.

They can not order one for me AND said it appeared to be a NON wear item... that ONLY in case of a crash would it need to be replaced.

I have been mechanicing for 50 years... my mental picture of the relationship of the Pitman arm to the Idler arm is that they travel pretty much in parallel .....the idler keeping the tie rods and the connecting pieces level with the ground the same way the Pitman am does on the driver's side.

So I can not figure out how it moves back and forth like the Pitman arm with NO WEAR Parts on it... The Pitman Arm , YES , the wear part attaches to it... thus will be replaced with normal parts. The first wear part the other direction would be the seal and bearings in the lower part of the power steering box.

What am I missing in this concept ? I can see the Pitman arm being only replaced due to a crash... but not the idler arm.

Thanks, Greg

There is a pitman arm which is splined onto the steering gear box - it is not a wearable part.

There are two long inner tie rods (one that bolts to the pitman) that connect to the outer tie rods via adjusting sleeves. The two inners are also connected to each other. Sometimes those inner tie rods will get referred to by other names like drag link or center link, but they are just tie rods. Never heard of an idler arm on these trucks.

I again recommend rockauto for everything - and generally recommend MOOG for most everything.

You are correct. This model has NO IDLER ARM . Wish some parts guy had told me that rather than that they can not order it. LOL
I think I now have all the parts I wanted for this front end job.
Thanks to everyone for all the suggestions.
