Default Solid tappets in 87 302 with stock pedestal rocker?

Hi Y’all, got some questions. Can you run mech tappets with the stock pedestal rockers in and adjust for correct lash via shimming? What rpm would the stock valve train with solids safely be able to take if this is possible? I’m eyeing off f Howard’s cams 289 HiPo cam thats why I’m asking. Could this cam perform well in this platform? My truck is 1987 RWD AOD 302 F150 with duals, LT headers, h pipe, 600cfm 4bbl carb. I’m dead set on solids for some reason. I would be Happy if I could rev it to 5500 without worrying although 6000 would be damm swell. I am aware of the HiPo using a 3/8 screw in stud compared to pedestal 5/16 bolt, just curious if the pedestal could take it. My truck revs clean to 5000 under WOT now and seems like it wants to do more but I just worry about blowing something. Trucks running good right now but I feel like she is crying out for some mid-top end
