Default So what are my stroker options?

I'm really wanting to swap a 351 into my 95 f150 5.0, I hear those engines are alot easier to build up and much more "truck worthy" I mainly just want some more torque, but i would like to build on it before I drop it in. My main question is, are there any stroker kits less than 408? This truck isn't gonna be just for racing, and I really don't want that big of a bore. Are there any other options for building the 351 up a little bit? I just want some noticable "umph" is all. Thanks!

Yes, there are other options. But the stroker kits don't really affect the bore that much. The overbore sizes are mostly dictated by the cylinder wall thickness. The 383 and 427 kits on that page both have the same bore options. And the overbore options are only the usual .030 - .060 choices. You'd do the same even with a stock rebuild. Since the money isn't much different you might as well go with the biggest kit.

Of course, I realize this is an old thread and my response is probably too late to matter. But maybe somebody else with the same question will find it useful.

Use the stock stroke 351 and put that stroker money into some nice head work for better gains

the bore is going to be the same regardless if its a 383, 393 or 408. they are all based on the 4.030 (30 over) the only difference is the stroke.

The cheapest is going to be the 393 if you reuse parts. that build is based on stock rods, a 3.85" stroker crank and 302 pistons. But the problem is getting the compression low enough for pump gas with the 302 pistons. it will be 11.5:1 - 12:1 depending on the combustion chamber size of the heads. The other issue is getting used 302 pistons is easy. But the chance of your 351W block not needing to be bored 30 over is slim.

So If your going to have to buy pistons your much better off with a 408. Much better option all around. and the cost of a 408 vs 393 (if you need to buy new pistons) is pretty much going to be the same. The power and low end torque is going to be better with a 408.. lighter pistons much stronger rods.

I'm running a 408 stroker (410 actually because its bored 40 over vs 30) in my 89 mustang and it crazy fast.. the low end torque on this thing is crazy.. and I built it for higher rpm.

How would a build like that hold up for mostly daily use? It's my daily driver/Main Street cruiser, and I don't wanna have to overhaul it again in 25k Ya know? Also, how much would a ball park be on a good 408 build? I'd be doing all the work myself.
