Default Smelly Exhaust 1993 F150 5.8l

I had the 5.8l rebuilt a few months back and have put a couple thousand miles on it, but it still smells like it's an old engine. I've had a few issues with it since the rebuild i.e. fuel line breaking, not starting and a couple other small problems. I thought that smell would go away after it was rebuilt, any suggestions on how to eliminate it.

Not sure what you mean by the old engine smell... Running rich, burning oil, PCV system not picking up the blow-by?

could be a bunch of carbon and other residuals built up in your exhaust over time?

also, the catalyst has always stunk to me on these trucks, so it could be that as well.
