Default Need a new engine, ideas?

I was driving home Friday when my 1990 f-150 (302, AOD trans) started shaking violently. I pulled over and noticed a huuuge banging noise coming from my pistons. Haven't had the chance to pull the motor yet but considering the noises and running condition it's looking like time to replace the engine.
I am looking for something that isn't ridiculously expensive but is going to keep me content in terms of power and hauling capabilities. I'm not exactly sure what kind of engine to look for but I have the means to get something. I have a few ideas of what to look for but I would like some advise about what would be good for our trucks. Any help would be great.
Thanks.

I don't know much If anything about your year truck but if I was to give advice I'd try to find another 302 so everything works like wiring harness motor mounts transmission ect. If you switch to a different motor you may have to change those things and probably other things as well. Again, Im not 100% sure but that's what I'd do if I didn't wanna spend a lot of time and money on it

Well I found a 302 Crate long block for $1500, but I'm not sure if it'll plug-n-play. Also found a 302 from a '78 ford but I don't know if it's compatible.

Putting a duramax in a 90 f150 would require a huge budget and huge amounts of time. Would not be simple at all

Not to mention the weight affecting the front end components

simple upgrade to f250 coils will solve the weight issue.

it may require one hell of a job but if it wold work i see a very nice model of a truck have the millage and power of a new truck. or maybe a comings engine also might work also and im sure the engines wold fit in the front of the truck but the mounts wold be a other thing and for the w8t prob i agree upgrading the coils might work out
