Default Hard to start

This is my first post so please bear with me if I do not get everything correct. I recently purchased a 1987 with a 302. Overall the truck is running great except for when it starts. I have to crank the engine at least 3 times before it turns over (although sometimes (randomly) it will start right up). Someone told me that there was an issue with the computer and the multiple cranks were actually resetting it. Is this true? If so, can I replace the computer? Can there be another reason?

Any ideas are very much appreciate.

Thanks!

I would test fuel pressure. Also, try to turn the key to on but not start. This will make the fuel pump run. You'll be able to hear it. Do this a couple times to build up pressure, then see if it starts easier.

I agree you should hear the fuel pump whine when you just turn the key to the on position, also check the fuel filter, it could be all clogged up and creating issues.
