Head doesn't dictate cam.. You have to get stud mounted rocker arms..

No.. Nothing of the head dictates what style of cam you have..

I'm pretty sure it is a roller lifter motor, the eddlebrock heads are a good choice ,there like 950$ if I remember for the set, heads are heads,u can order them in a variety of ways and different brands will have the similar product but different power claims,I don't see no point in spending 1200$ or more on a set of heads

No.. Heads are not just heads..

That's shows ignorance to the design differences between different aftermarket heads..

And that engine is def a flat tappet cam.. Not till late 92ish did the trucks get a roller cam.. Even then it's a garbage cam..

If he goes aftermarket heads he need a good cam.. Or else will waste the heads and make less power cause no velocity internally..

OK so I was off a year on the change over, and yes there are diffence in design but as far as brand its mainly personnel preference, calling people ignorant isn't a good idea, some just don't read in to the heads as much as others.you can gain velocity in the intake manifold to make up in the heads,I've seen this done by using velocity plates at the throttle body,I modified my stock heads, opened up the valve pockets,5 angle valve job ,stainless valves, heavy springs, cromoly pushrods, and port matching everything together,...my 302 makes over 300 hp and close to 400 lbs torque.when ordering heads its all about the right combination of valve sizes and combustion chamber sizes.there are so many differnt options on heads its nearly impossible to make a educated buy for someone new to this hobby.!

Ok... And so what that your 302 makes 300 and 400.. Is that at the crank? I'm gonna guess so..

I'm making around 300 at the wheel as well with a very mild cam, ported stock intake, and some basic flat top pistons..

Why would you do all that to stock heads.. You probably have nearly 1k in those heads. Unless you do the work yourself.. Which then you still have A lot in the parts and time..

With trick flows you do the same and can make over 1k hp and tq.. With basic casting..

It's not brand preference unless your a picky person.. Spec wise a trick flow track heat has bigger valves than those E-brocks, which allows you to use less cam, which makes drive ability better. The port design and valve setup allows more direct flow patterns which promote velocity, which makes torque, which makes hp.. The TF 170s flow equal to a AFR 185 when CFM comes into play.. If you can push that same CFM through a slightly smaller port, that's pure velocity.. Then valve springs in the head out of box.. The E-Brocks have a basic spring that only holds up to .550" lift. The TF track heats, are double springs, which hold up to .600" lift.. My mild cam has .550" lift with the 1.72 roller rockers.. So would be at limits of the e-brocks. Not even close with the TF's..

A all of the above is in no way shape or form possible with some stock cast iron heads..
