Default Building 96 302 F150 (Help)

Hello All,
I have a 1996 f150 with 302 that has 220k. Im looking to beef it up in the hopes to give it back some of the pep its lost over the years. The engine is very strong, reliable, and in its current state I see it going no less than 300k. But if something does go wrong i'm not afraid to rebuild or fix it. My plan thus far is Hedman LT headers, fully custom exhaust with true duals, a new cam (Ford e303), new timing chain, new intake manifold, GT40 heads, crane roller rocker and lifters, and a bbk throttle body. I think I'm going with a 75mm TB but BBK also makes a twin 61mm and 56mm TB. My truck came factory with a twin 51mm I believe. The truck is a 96 and has a MAF sensor, which if I did my homework correctly means its not a speed density engine. I just have a few questions before I throw my '84 f250 6.9 back together and pull the 96 into the garage and begin the tear down. I live in Ohio and need to pass emissions a few more years, I was reading somewhere online that only the GT-40P heads have stuff for emissions. I've seen other people use GT-40 heads on 96's and have no issues, so I guess i'm wondering how they do it? My truck has its EGR so I would also need an intake that supports an EGR. I would also need to incorporate 02 sensors somewhere in the exhaust after I install the headers so it doesn't throw codes. Has anybody else done any of these modifications? Does anybody see any issues with my selected parts? I also notice sites like Summit Racing have these parts listed for 302's up until the year 95, why is that? Is there a difference between the 95 and 96 302's? Help is greatly appreciated!!

Below is the list of parts I have selected so far

GT-40 Heads

Hedman HD LT Headers

Ford E303 Camshaft

Either Trick Flow Street Burner Intake

OR
EdelBrock Performer 5.0

BBK 75MM TB

OR
BBK Twin 61mm

Crane Roller Rockers

Might also do rings when I pull the truck apart. Am I missing anything? Also will both of those throttle bodies fit onto the Edelbrock Performer? Thanks a lot!

My first thought was that if you throw all those parts at a motor that has 200,000, it's not going to make it to 300 - very unlikely that the bearings would hold up. Sounds like they're fine, but they'll be worn so a bunch of extra horsepower will take them out real fast.
Might want to think about a fresh bottom end before you get real excited with the top end.

I agree with Chris_1. That's a bunch of work and money to put on a tired out shortblock. I'm sure a good amount of the power loss is from the rings and pistons being worn (lower compression). Save your money until you can do the whole thing and then do it right.

By the way headman LT Elite series fit perfect and are great quality. Easy thing to do is to place the O2 sensors just a fter the collectors in the front header pipe. You will have to extend the harness a few inches but that's easy.

I have GT40 III bar heads and I can tell you that mine do not have the ports on the back of the heads for the A.I.R pipe.

Good Luck

I agree with the other guys I would hone it re ring it and bearings. I would also throw in a new oil pump.

Also in my opinion the 303 cam doesn't belong in a truck... go with a costume ground cam camresearch.com strictly deals with ford and they are extremely knowledgeable.
