Default 94 F150 auto 308's, lugging down?

I have a 94 F150 Flareside, 302, AODE, open diff with 308's. The guy I bought it from added 3" exhaust after the cat, and a flowmaster. I am doing a tune up tomorrow to clear things up. My problem is, I am getting 15.5mpg, and I am completely gutless. I am thinking its because my gears lug the 302 down??

I was thinking maybe doing intake/exhaust, probably single pipe all the way. Or would it be better to put 4.10's/stall in it??

I'll follow up tomorrow with the tune up, I am sure the guy spent $6.89 on everything from the autoparts store :\.

3.08s feel pretty soggy, check your timing and such, the after cat isn't t likely to cost you any power, but a plugged cat sure can. If it accidentally got unhooked and ran way better, maybe the cats plugged.

Thanks guys!! It feels like it loads down pretty hard. I've been thinking maybe its how an AOD is.

I'll check the timing, and remove my cat as well.

I've got 3.08s in my 300. My 0-60 is between 17 and 18 seconds, but I pull in the same 16mpg you do. It's all in those gears. Change them to even just 3.55 and you'll notice a big difference.

I'm about to pull a 3.55 rear end to throw in my truck so I can run 33s

Yeah, I'm going to switch out my gears next spring, probably 4.10's.

Thanks!

Ya yank them cats out, i have a 96 and with a stock exhaust and cats i was averaging a little over 13, to having true duals with no cats and an X-pipe and now im getting mid 16 range when im really nice to it. Plus you have no o2 sensor after the cats so cut them out and youll feel a power and MPG difference.

Nice, 5.0's sound amazing with some flowing exhaust.

Honestly I have a 92 Stang with Lt's+xpipe+flows, sounds good but obnoxious when trying to hold a conversation.

Would shorties with a 3inch y be enough?
