88 302 carb conversion, what cam?? E303?
I have an 88 302 efi with 167xxx. It a 4x4 regular cab short bed 4 speed 3.55s and 33s. It's in need of a rebuild the emissions on it are shot it's shining about every check engine code you can think. I have a 600 cfm edelbrook 4 barrel with vacuum secondary and electric choke and a eldelbrok performer intake manifold. I plan on a new distributor be setup and bypassing the high pressure pump on the frame and adding a fuel pressure regulator. And eliminating all emission.
I think I covered everything but my question is what would be a the best cam for my application with a stock block and heads. I don't plan on swapping to the HO engine I want to use what I have unless I run across a good set of gt40 heads. I want a cam with a good balance of torque and HP with a decent amount of lope. I have true dual straight pipes no cats with a x pipe and I want o be able to pull up to a stoplight and the car beside me know it's got a cam. Just a good sounding lope. I rarely tow over 2000 lbs rarely will I tow something over 3000 lbs.
And any other suggestions are welcome other than keeping EFI

I think the firing order is different in the 88 truck 302 and the 5.0 The B 303 has the 5.0 or 351 w firing order. I think you could still use a B303 cam you would just have to wire the plug wires to the 5.0 order. I have a B303 in my bracket mustang it is not a big cam by any means. I don't know if it would make the sound you are looking for.

I used to use a Melling Tool Track cam in my small block Fords. Solid lifter cam. Set intake at .08 thousandths and exhaust at .12 thousandths. This cam is a guaranteed shaker.
