7.5 Tuning for Better Performance and Economy
I just bought a 1996 F350 with the 460 Gas V8 and I am only getting about 6.5 MPG in the city and I’m guessing about 8-10 on the highway. I wanted to know what is the best tuner to help with performance and economy. Yes I know it’s a truck and trucks don’t get good economy but it shouldn’t be that bad.

I know those trucks.
Lots of torque, lots of gas.
My buddy had a brand new one years ago, and when it had 5000 miles on it Indrove it up Hunting, because I knew the area, and it did 7.55 mpg.
Good working truck though, ran perfect, all the time.
You can do little things, like a free-flowing exhaust, but with the gearing your truck has, it will never pull 19mpg on the highway like the new generation will.
So keep your foot out of it when you can, and remember that you do not have a high dollar truck payment! It will make you feel better!

Depending on your budget, a true dual exhaust, 2 1/2" pipe with Turbo mufflers.
Those were really good trucks.
We tore the roof off a house once, and put a couple of pickup tires in the bottom of a trailer, and threw the shingles in it.
Then we pulled the trailer up to the dump with a 1/2 ton chevy, and hooked the chain onto the 3/4 ton F250, and the tires caught the trailer floor, and that 460 started pulling the load, the trailer, and the other pickup before they unsnagged and that roofing came flying out of there.
You could visibly watch the gas gauge drop I think - but lots of torque!!

There is no tuner for these old EECs, and performance is the opposite of economy. Click this & read the caption:
