Default 4.6 2V engine rattle/whine

I have a 2004 f150 with a 4.6 2v with 170,000 miles on it, that has developed a loud whine/rattle at idle to about 2800. This noise seems to be coming from the right side of the motor. I have used a stepthascope to isolate where the noise is coming from and it seem to be coming from the very front of the motor at the seam where the valve cover meets the heads and in the middle of the cylinder bank. The noise using the sthepthascope is so loud that you can’t barely listen to it. When driving the truck if you give it full throttle the whine gets excessively loud and at 2800 it completely stops and is almost perfect sounding. The conclusion I have come to is that the timing tensioner and guide on the right side of my engine has gone bad. Has anyone else had this problem and had a different solution.

This forum is for pre-'97 (smallblock) V8s. You'll get better answers faster about your modular V8 if you post in the appropriate '97-up forum.
