Winter Oil. what do you run?
My truck is approaching its first oil change since I bought it. (the 4x4) What should I run this winter? I thought these took 10w30 but the sticker on the window says they put in 5w30.

5w30, same as you run in the summer. you can argue all day about oils but heres no reason to run different weight oils different times. pick a good full synthetic and run it. even conventional oil works fine, just keep it changed. the full syn will handle extreme cold better.

rotella t5 is excellent oil, i run it in my streetbike and dirtbikes. not many people know its jaso-ma which means its also rated for a wet clutch.. i doubt its weight would hurt the 4.9, 5.0, or 5.8 but its not really the right oil.
mobil one from walmart in the 5 quart jugs is a good cheap full syn oil, one of the best for the money.

Changing oil weights originated a long time ago when oil was straight weight, ie 20w, 30w. Multi viscosity oils lesened the need to do this. 10w30, 10w40 hs been around since what, the 60's. Modern oil is even more technilogically advanced than the 60's oil. IMO, there's no need to change oil viscosity. Just run what's recommended.

I run same
I run the same oil in the winter and summer and just what it says on the oil cap(5w20). But now that my trucks have 200,000 miles I will switch to 10w30.
