Default Straight 6 vs 302

I don't know too much about either engine but which one do you think is a better overall engine taking into account reliability, durability, and horsepower?

300 hands down for reliability and torque, 302 more for performance and power.

300s are great, 302s are very reliable too, 300s too underpowered in my opinion

the 300 is way overrated in my opinion. Gutless, poor mpg. I don't doubt for a minute it has incredible durability, but the first 250,000 miles are a killer. 302 all the way.

Yeah, agree. A lot of ppl seem to think its got more torque than the 302 also, which is false. I still like the 300s tho for the fact that they don't die easy

Thanks but yea the truck with the 300 in it Im looking at already has about 160,000 miles on it but its very clean and doesn't have nearly as much rust as the 302 does

The 300 is gutless and overrated? Properly maintaining it and tuning it right to get better power and MPG. Today alone city driving I got 17.5 MPG, and its cold outside, around 5 F.

Also If you guys don't let you're engines warm up (under 180 deg F), no wonder you are getting crap mileage.

My 300 is not gutless, it's quite close to my uncles 302 in acceleration. Both trucks are the exact same configuration, rclb two wheel drive five speeds. His is 6 years older, 90' but has 1/3 of the miles my 300 does. If properly maintained the 300 gets good gas mileage, I get about 16 average and I dont baby it. And it has 210,000 mi on it...
