I have a 1988 F-150 4.9 I6 2wd 4 speed that started running slightly warm recently. Parked the truck for the night, came out the next day, had a small coolant puddle on the floor and the coolant reservoir was very low. Did a quick look and there was also coolant puddled up under the radiator as well. I'm going to drop the truck off at the shop in the next couple weeks. (Not driving it until then)
In preparation for potentially replacing the radiator, does anyone have recommendations on what I should go with? Seems like there are a ton of options but seems like there is a quality issue when reading the reviews. I appreciate the help and will provide any information that I left out! (Also, with it going to the shop, any other services yall recommend doing? I do most of the basic maintenance my self but there are some things I'd like to leave to the professionals lol)
(Older photo but figured I'd show Ol' Red off)- Additional info, this was my grandfathers truck since he bought it brand new, he passed it to my when I turned 21. 9 years later, i've had the engine rebuilt and have done a ton of work on it to get it running like a top. Want to be able to pass it down to my kids one day.
I basically have the same truck except mine is an 87 w/ no air conditioning..It originally had a one row radiator and that is what I bought.
I used a Spectrum Premium radiator from Rock Auto three years ago and I haven't had any issues. I had good luck with their gas tanks as well. It was made in Canada not a Chinese one which I liked. It was such an easy job, it took about an hour along with the hoses.. I wouldn't take it to a mechanic to do such an easy job.
