Hi, new to the forum here and fairly new to mechanical work. I'm in quite the jam. I've repaired many components on my vehicle in the past and I seem to have delved into a project a little beyond my abilities.
My 96 F-150 with the 4.9 i6 300 shut down on me on my way to work the other day and couldn't get her to start again. Got her towed back home and discovered the fiber timing gear's teeth had been sheared off.
A buddy came over with a gear puller who promptly cracked the gear as soon as he tightened the puller and we ended up busting the whole gear off in hopes to pull off or cut through the metal hub pressed onto the end of the camshaft.
I have been wrestling this hub for days now, grinding and cutting through with a dremel to no avail. I figure I must have been cutting somewhat deep into the camshaft by now but this hub will not budge. I've pried on it as much as I can with no result.
Have I not cut deep enough? What are the consequences of cutting too deep into the end of this cam? Have I ****ed myself completely?
