Default Engine stumbles when accelerating . Idles fine.

This morning while going to work engine began stumbling bad to the point I could only crawl off the road.
it idled fine and would then drive up to 25 miles per hour..
Then magically for a few minutes started running fine.

I am at work now, but not sure I trust it will get me home 15 miles.

Recently put I. New fuel pump & filter in rear tank.
Tank is pretty rusty. I planned to replace it,, but couldn't get one in time.. front tank pump is down..

Suggestions ?
could MAP or ICM cause this?
or EGR not sealed complete ly? I noticed egr o e bolt is broken off. Seems to be a gap where it mounts to engine.

Thanks much!

Suggest it could be any of a number of things.
Pulling the computer codes may shed some light on what is going on.
If it had been running fine, would suggest to focus on what has recently been changed or otherwise disturbed, such as perhaps a plugged pick-up screen in the tank.
Good luck, and keep us posted.

No, a loose EGR couldn't cause that symptom. Yes, there are MANY other things that could, but that's not diagnosis - it's blind gue$$ing. Pick something that you think is likely, and test it. If you don't know how, tell us what you want to test, and we'll show you how.

I'd start with a fuel pressure gauge.

My truck has been doing the same for some time now. Only when it's been driven for awhile. I replaced the front gas pump, back one doesn't work. When it starts doing that, I switch from front to back to front real fast and it runs fine again until it slows down again. Never did it before I worked on the front tank. Must be a sensor of some sort.

That's a blind guess. No, it's not likely caused by any sensor.

it is a blind guess, but can't understand how switching from front tank to back then front again taking only one second could be what? Block in the new fuel pump?

Interesting.
thanks for input.
when I have the energy I. Next day or so going to see how much crud is coming out fuel line at the filter. Then go from there.

Ordering new gas tank. Need it anyway.
The spectra brand is one I can get soonest, but looks kinda chintsy...

Truck has also been developing an exhaust leak I think. Perhaps this contributes or is cause?

In meantime am driving g my back up Isuzu.

Thx

Steve83 missed your comment about fuel pressure test. Will do that hopefully in next day or so.

Haven't had much time.

However, did check fuel at the fuel filter. It looks clean from the "out" side of filter.
I have a tank being shipped. Will look at the filter screen on pump when I replace tank.

Threw a new MAP sensor in it. Couldn't test old one because I don't Have a Hz tester. Thought ...what the hell it would be a part I would pre-emptively replace anyway. It didn't fix problem. Was pretty sure it wouldn't.

Drove it for about 30 minutes fine.
It started acting up.
turned it off for 3 minutes or so. Started right up and ran fine for next 5 minutes home.

Read the codes:

95: Fuel Pump 2ndary circuit failure/ fuel pump - bad ground or always on *** I NOTICE that the gauge is reading level when truck is off and key out.***

67: Neutral pressure switch closed. Fault. ***I had it in Nuetral**

25: Knock sensor not testing

21: Engine Coolant level out of range.

13: Unable to control RPM during self test. Low RPM check. ISC did not respond properly

77: No Goose test . Operator error

maybe something with the new pump.?

Not long ago I put a new Spectra pump in a friend's '93 GMC , but it was not good out of the box. I put a Delphi in instead and he hasn't had any trouble.

Mine is a Spectra because I needed it ASAP.

So, the question is how to test the new fuel pump that seems to be working. So I can rule it out.?

Just a thought.
Will be back to it tonight after work.

thx
