Advice on replacing my PCM
I have a 1994 f150 XL single cab I6. One morning I went out and started the truck. It ran fine for about 30 seconds then died! I had some smoke coming from the driver side kick panel near the E-brake peddle. From what I read on forums I assumed it was my PCM. Sure enough my PCM was burned up on the inside.
I ordered a rebuilt (I don't know the proper term) PCM from http://www.solopcms.com. They supposedly choose the right PCM and software based off of my VIN number. When I installed it the motor will turn over but not start. I did check and my cylinders are getting spark.
Is this just a bad PCM they sent me, or is there something more I am supposed to do? Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

PCM= power train control module
I had a similar problem with my 96. On your PCM there is a barcode and right under it there is a code of numbers and letters. They have to match the same on the old PCM in order for it to work.

Thanks for your input. So when you put your new PCM in your 96, it started right up, without doing anything special?

Thanks. The new PCM from soloPCM.com didn't have any bar codes or numbers on the outside. But they did verify the specific numbers on mine when I placed my order. I'm guessing they sent me an incorrect PCM? When I called them they told me to go ahead and send it back. I'll let you know what happens when I get the next one back. Thanks for your input. Okay so I got my new PCM in the mail today. It had a sticker on the side and all the numbers matched up perfectly with my original.
I put it in and the truck started right up for a few seconds then died. I then started it up and would pump the gas to keep it running. It runs really rough and won't rev up. I barely got my truck out of my driveway because it would barely rev up to a point to engage the auto transmission.
I called SoloPCM.com and they said I am going to have to pull the PCM and send it back again. I am getting tired of this game. Do you remember who you got your PCM from?
Has anyone else on this forum had problems with soloPCM.com.
Thanks for all the advice and help.
