Default 89 f150 4x4 4.9l crank no start

Hi all
I am confused about the spout Dongle. I was checking for spark yesterday between my coil and rotor using an inline spark tester. I had my push button starter switch hooked up to my battery and the S terminal on the starter solenoid. It said when using the remote starter to disable the ignition system which i was testing. So i pulled the spout dongle out and pressed the button it turned over but no spark. Then i did koeo and got spark. How did it spark with the spout out.
Since I was getting spark between the coil and rotor does that mean that my PIP sensor / pickup coil and coil and ICM are all working good?
I pushed the valve down on my fuel rail Schrader valve and gas came out. I want to use my full pressure gauge to check it will the fuel pump run with the spout out?
Does the computer come out inside the cabin or out thru the engine bay. Ive seen both methods.
I think my caps are blown on my EEC. I get no codes on my new OBD1 reader and no flashing CEL wirh a jumper in my self test connector. It said in the manual that it may be the white wire that is loose the STI wire. Is that a computer ground or a frame ground.
So far I put in new plugs the old ones were all running very lean. New wires and rotor and cap. Checked for spark and fuel. TPI and MAP will be next. Then the EEC.

The square is static no flashing no codes

Thanks in advance

Removing the spout jumper keeps the computer from adjusting timing, but the truck will run without it.

Thanks soup bean. So how do you disable the ignition. And why does it say in the instructions to do that when using a remote switch.

The ECM comes out into the cab. There's a hex head screw holding a clamp over the ECM.
If I were going to disable the ignition, I would remove the coil wire that goes to the center of your distributor cap.
Your fuel pumps should run for a couple of seconds, when you turn the key to the on position, then shut off until the ECM sees the engine rotating via the PIP sensor at the distributor.

This link has a good test procedure for the PIP sensor. Is your ignition control module mounted on your distributor? If it's mounted on your fender, there's a link in the tutorial to take you to the correct procedure for fender mounted ignition control modules.https://easyautodiagnostics.com/ford...module-tests-1

Thanks that is a great site. Do you know what sensor if bad could cause a lean condition.

Are you getting engine codes indicating a lean condition? Edit: Sorry about that. I see you aren't getting codes with your reader.
It's possible that your check engine light is burned out and that you could still get the engine codes using a volt meter.
What happened at that beginning of the crank/no start condition? Were you ever able to retrieve codes?

No codes and the engine light come on but does not blink with the jumper method. It all started 2 weeks ago when you had to crank it over 2 or 3 times. Then all the sudden no start. I was lucky and it gave me one more start a few days later, but ran tough. I did get it into the garage. I know it is running lean because all the plugs are white.
thanks for all your help

It sounds like an ECM issue, but I would recommend following the ignition control module troubleshooting process all the way through.

On your year of truck, is there a yellow "check engine" light and a red "engine light"?
