thanks, I appreciate it!

I'd think of it like this. Say your headlights have issues or you have to take them off for whatever reason. Which would you rather put back on the truck? Don't use those ones then. Stripping and painting the chrome was the easiest part of this project for me. And fun fact, when you strip the chrome bezels down they end up black anyway! Secret fx4 mod

My original input was to retro the HD lights and keep the chrome as backups. But after some more thought, I'd like to change my answer. I would strip the chrome ones and rock the HD lights during the retro and keep in case you decide to swap back or have problems etc. Stripping the bezels and painting won't add much additional work to the project. Plus by keeping the HD lights on the truck and looking good, you won't feel as rushed to complete the project and hopefully ensure a better outcome. This is especially true if this is your daily driver. For me, mine is a 3rd vehicle, so I chose to just retro my FX4 lights. If something went wrong or goes wrong in the future, it won't put me in much of a bind to get more lights.

You guys are good at reasoning things out. Chromes are getting done. They are off the truck so I can take my time with them. I will need it with a young child. I want to add personal touches on the inside but not sure if I will or not.

I guess this project is getting started soon since they have shipped everything out. I might wait a couple weeks since I will be off work for a couple months for summer break.

Oven cleaner to get the chrome off? I though I saw that post somewhere. I am assuming some type of auto spray paint will be fine for the housing.

I didn't remove the chrome I scuffed it up with an Scotch Brite pad. The chrome in there is very very thin. But to answer your question, yeah. Oven cleaner, let them sit for a bit and wipe/wash it out. Auto paint works well, would pick up some primer designed for plastic adhesion and put that on first.

Thanks for the info. I may just scuff them up like you said.
