The bottom is a dummy projector. It’s just the lense and you screw/mount it to the reflector. It has NO threaded shaft. I found it difficult to line up properly, but then I realized that I wanted the ability to actually flash my high beams at somebody. With the bi-xenon function, when you hit your high beams, it moves the flap in the projector. But your low beams have to be on in order to use the high beams. Get it? I wanted to be able to give a quick flash like when signaling someone thats its ok to cut in front of you. I didn’t want to have to turn on my lowbeam each time I wanted to use the high beams. Instead of the dummy projector, I’d use a cheap knock of H1 from amazon. It’ll come with the threaded shaft and be much easier to mount up. And the quality doesn’t matter if you don’t plan on using them anyway. Or you could leave the high beam reflector alone and still use it as intended with a regular bulb. But might look a little odd if the top reflector is blacked out and the bottom one isn’t. But lots of cars do it that way. Projector for low beam and standard bulb for highs.

man that looks good. Can’t wait to see yours finished. I get what you’re saying about the high beams. Are you just going to keep the dummy or change it to where you can use them with low beams off? Also, is there any trimming required to fit the h1s with the shrouds?

If you want to actually use your factory high beam, I would not use hid in the oem high beam location. Use an upgraded halogen or QUALITY led bulb. If you can fit it, I would definitely recommend the Mini D2S projector. It is still thread mount, but you have a much better selection of bulbs. TRS always has a big black friday sale, but if youre in a huge rush, TRSHJ is a 10% off code for them that works anytime (its from the headlight junkie page on facebook).

thanks for the advice. I’m still deciding on the high beam. I’m thinking if I put the dummy where the high beam location will look more uniform and better than leaving a halogen bulb. What’s the main difference in the d2s and mini h1, just size? I’m not familiar with hid projectors...

As would I because I'm OCD like that. lol. The biggest difference is the bulb choice. There are many more (also better) bulb choices for a D2S projector. This was / is an oem projector, so many more choices. Mini H1 is an aftermarket projector, so there is a limited choice of bulbs. I did one retrofit on my Legacy with Mini H1's and Morimoto 5500k bulbs and then I did a MD2S retrofit on another car and I def thought it was nicer, but then again, either will be worlds better than your stock halogens.

What I’m using for the highs is a sealed beam led. Mounts right up with a threaded shaft and comes with the 9005 adapter. I did no trimming of the shroud at all for the mini h1 in the low beam. You will need to punch out the reflector for the mini H1 to fit. I used a step drill bit and it was easy. I also had to grind down the back of the reflector for the rubber washer to fit in front and a metal washer to fit in back. Retrofit source also sells the grinding disc to do this. They’re for a dremel. Also look into getting the moto bulb holders. Makes mounting bulbs in the H1 sooooo much easier. Here’s a pic of the high beam I’m using. It’s a profile peak retro high lense. Here’s a pic of the new setup. The wires still need to be tucked. It was a very rough mock up.

Even though they look different, I’d choose function over looks. Plus at night, with all 4 halos going, it’s will still look pretty dope.

I like that. I saw a guy on YouTube that used those same leds for his high beam on a 2018. I may go this route also.

are you familiar with wiring in DRL led switchback strips on halogen equipped trucks?
