Default Retrofit Aggravation...

I've had my retrofits for about a month now. They look awesome, but they're in the box because I've had tons of issues.

I got them installed and intermittently, only the passenger side light works. I got both sides to light up a few times, but never consistently. On a trip back from out of town, both lights were working on the trip there and only one on the trip back. 100 mile trip with the one-eyed monster.

I figured it was the ballasts, harness, relay box for the harness. All have been replaced. I most recently bought another control box from theretrofitsource.com. Still the same issue, only the passenger side will fire. Swapped bulbs, still the same issue.

So here I am, nearly $1,000 later, and only one working headlight. On top of having an angry wife about literally throwing money at the problem, the fact remains that I only have one working light.

If anyone has any ideas, I'm open to suggestions. /rant

I had the same problem. Did you buy the $300 halo head lights? Mine are in a box too. I put hids in the fogs too and they work just fine. So
My guess is something with housing the way it uses high low beam is problem

Not the halo lights, custom retros from a user on here. I started fumbling with them again today and still one the passenger side. The driver side will flicker, but it won't stay on.

I think I could be okay with $300. I'd be a little mad, but I could get over it. It's hard to get over $1,000.

No kidding, sorry to hear about that. I thought about spending a grand on them but seems a bit much for lights. Wife won't let me

Where are you getting power from for the control box? Do you have a good ground?

It sounds like it's not getting full current to fire the ballast. Also is the fuse that is in that harness good, and seated in the fuse holder?

Have you contacted them for assistance? Any of the users on here that I know that do retrofits are top-notch.

Using the main ground on the pass and driver side, fuse in there, even replaced it just to see what would happen, still the same problem.

Sounds like the same place I have mine grounded. Are you getting the the hot side direct off the battery? It takes some juice to get them to go.

Does the plug look good that goes into the harness from the factory headlight H13 plug? Did you tap into the pass side or driver? I used the pass, but can't believe that would make any difference. Maybe a pin isn't making full contact there causing a intermittent signal to the harness.

Hope you get it figured out!

show us pictures of how you're trying to wire it. if you aren't hitting the battery for the main power lead, it'll never fire off the ballasts.

First thing is first, narrow down the troubleshooting by providing 12 volts straight to the ballast. If the light fires up, then the problem lies behind this....i.e., the harness, the grounds, which are very important, and the actual connection to the OEM H13 harness. Make sure no pins are pushed out the back of the connectors. Try plugging the harness into the driver's side OEM connection. This will require adding some length to the main power wire though.

For the record, I didn't build his lights.

Good luck. I'm sure the builder will chime in sooner than later.
