Mine seem to be constant voltage to bulb and a small DC motor moves bulb back and forward, ie like a window motor... no signal, no movement.

Can anyone confirm?

I am not at home to test and won't be for about 10-15 days, but was hoping to get an answer on here as we have been messing with it for days before I had to leave...

That's how all Bi-Xenon HID's work. Bulb is always on, and a solenoid controls the cutoff shield.

The bulb does not move. Only the shield retracts for high beam functionality.

The wire powering the solenoid is the one you tie the relay to..

For the people that are not sure how the lights work, here is a good video that talks about the flaws of the factory HID's. This is from another forum member, he does not really say anything about solenoids but a solenoid is what holds the cutoff shield open when high beams are energized.

Neat vid to watch to learn how they work... both those cutoffs would require power to them to keep them on high beam

The power for the dually's comes from the battery, pin 86 just gets power from the trigger wire, which in this case is the the wire that operates the solenoid that pulls the cutoff shield out of the way for the bright lights. It does not take much juice to operate the coil that closes the switch from 30 to 87. So as already stated by another poster it does not matter what that wire controls as long as it provides enough voltage to the coil between 86 and 85 to close the switch between 30 and 87.

**edit** Reatki, nice easy diagram for someone to follow!
Thanks for the detailed explaination, I'm not very experienced in relays so this helps alot. Any idea what the color of the wire is on my 2010 f150 for the high beams?

Sorry I do not have that info. If you have a voltmeter you could check to see what wire gets voltage when the high beams are energized, this would be the easiest way if someone can't provide a wiring diagram.
