Default Headlight Questions

Hello, I recently purchased a 2018 XL STX F-150 with stock halogen headlights and want some better looking headlights. I was looking at the Alpharex pros as I do not want to spend 1,500 on morimotos. I have a few questions before I buy.
1) For anyone who has them, are the halogens that come with them better or worse than OEM? The OEM ones are not that bright to begin with so I hope they are at least similar.
2) if I upgrade to H7 LED's, is there any extra wiring I have to do? I am not too familiar with working on vehicles (especially wiring) and do not want to have to take it somewhere and pay even more.
3) If the LED's are more of process than just switching out, are there brighter halogens I can buy?

I am fine with connecting the wiring to the battery and having the running light on only when the lights are on as I do not want to deal with fuse stuff and would like to avoid it if at all possible. I have watched install videos but they do not cover these questions that well. Thanks in advance!

I had them for about a month on my 2016.
I never tried them with the halogens in, I switched to LED's after reading numerous recommendations to run LED H7 bulbs, so I cannot speak to the pattern/output of the halogen bulbs.
  • I didn't like the output of the high beams; (the low beams seamed brighter).
  • I also didn't like the pattern of the high beams; (they had this sort of ring with a ton of dead space between until you got to the center where the light was).
  • Nor the narrow spread of the low beams; (it felt like I couldn't see anything to the slight left or right of my truck at night, however the cutoff and space it did light was fantastic).
  1. I switched to LED's after reading numerous recommendations to run LED H7 bulbs.
  2. As far as H7 LED's, no extra required, just have to make sure to match the + side of plug to + side of bulb harness, and - side of plug to - side of bulb harness. (Polarity).
  3. As for the driving/running lights, the only wiring needed isn't really too intensive if you use an add-a-fuse. (There are tons of tutorials on YouTube to guide you through add-a-fuse.)
I have the stock housings back in, and recently purchased Morimoto XB hybrids that I plan on putting in this weekend. They were $916.90 when I bought them (prior to Black Friday promos, etc).

1) you won't spend $1500 on MM if you take advantage of the sale
https://www.f150forum.com/f37/umnitz...1-29-a-532745/
2) This is a bad idea as the light output is poor on the oem halogen, if you want, you can get hybrid LED headlights from Morimoto for far less than that - high $700s
3) They are "brighter" but more glare and less quality of output.

I have the Alpharex Pros in my 2018 F-150 XLT. I swapped the H7 bulbs that came with the lights out for Phillips Crystalvision bulbs. They are a whiter light but they struggle with the projector lenses. There is a dead spot in the center that (I assume) comes from the coated tip on the bulb. Eventually I plan to convert over to HID bulbs because I don't think the LED would do much better with those lenses. I don't know for sure though! If you get them and put led replacements in please post pictures!

Accurate! LED bulbs inside these projectors or even reflectors are awful and HID do a better job. That said, the projectors on halogen headlights are not optimized for either configuration ( HID or LED). It's better to try to open the lights and install a Bixenon or Bi-LED retrofit.

Are you asking how to retrofit your stock headlights? if so, you need to take them off the truck, put them into a large'ish oven on bake and work your magic to open them.
This is about 6-8 hours if you do it properly and you can get a great finished headlight when done. The work is very involved.

or you can purchase pre-fabbed XB and XB hybrid units from us and send yours in for a rebate check.
DM me if you are interested.
