[QUOTE=toledoUPSguy;6041589]I am going to sound like a broken record but here goes again. Their module is a complete waste of money. All it does is put enough load on the 4 way plug so that power flows constantly, eliminating the trailer connected and trailer disconnected message. Hard wiring is pretty easy. Putco's website has great instructions for wiring the Ford trucks

Thanks for the help, worked great

So what you are telling me is that there is no way to bypass the trailer connection and the only way to get the back up sensors back is to hardwire the light bar?

others may have luck with the bypass module, I did not. Ot7 sent me 2 modules even. The bar worked fine the plug and play way you just loose the sensors and the automatic engine shutdown features.
Herd wiring was easy, 3 wires to the left turn signal, 1 1 to the right and 1 ground to the frame.

Follow-up question for Bretski : Is your hard wiring ok for a 2018XLT with Trailer/Towing assist, BLIS and backup camera ?

I read somewhere that a guy had the installation done by a Ford dealer and he was told they had to add a relay in order to avoid problems with the computer functions related to the towing and assist. I see your Lariat is 2016, so I don't know if it is equipped with those functions. Could you elaborate ?

I am going to start staying out of these threads because it is the same question and answer over and over, search is your friend. My 2016 Lariat has everything. The only difference between the 16s and the new trucks in regards to this is plugging into the new one doesn't turn off the BLIS. Putco's instructions are the best to follow and they clearly say you have to wire to the tail lights on these fords with LED tail lights. My guess is the ford dealer added the relays because there is only about 5 volts on the wires to the LED tail lights and they used the relays to get 12v to the light bar but they were still going to the tail light wires, not the trailer plug. Same reason as Putco has their bar wired to a constant 12v source.

There isn't a short cut for these Fords and wiring to the tail light is easy.

Thank you for taking the time to reply and explain. My bar is an OPT7 and I had tried to find the Putco's instructions but was unsuccessful. Thanks again.

I plan to buy Posi-Taps as well but I am not sure what Wire Gauge I should buy... Would 16-18 be OK ? I read somewhere the truck light wires were gauge 22.
Could you enlighten me ?
