Fog Lights--LED vs' HID? Best for Poor Weather Driving?
So.... after driving in a snow/sleet storm this past week and not being able to see the road very well I've decided it's time to invest in some forward lighting. From your experience, what works better in the fog light housing... HID or LED bulbs? I'd really like to see where I'm going in foul weather. Thoughts? <br>
Thanks in advance!

Neither And I run an LED store, lol. HID and LED are designed to give you a nice PURE white light... which is NOT the best light for driving. Halogens have a more yellow/amber color so they will cut through bad weather much better than HID or LED...
HOWEVER, that's talking about the 6000k and 6500k temperatures. If you get OTHER temperatures (like 3000k) they will just cut through that bad weather SO much better...
I'd recommend LED over HID. I don't sell the LED lights in a different color (yet, I can get them but it'll take a week or two if you are willing to wait) but you'd want to get a 2000k to 3000k set of lights. That yellow will cut through the bad weather.

Hmmm... I've had HID's on my Jeep and they were amazing for picking up the reflective pigment on the stripes on the road. I was using the 4300K HID's. I'd like to see some pictures of the comparison between LED's and HID's please.

Well 4300 is going to be better to cut through things then say 6000 or 6500
HID's use a bigger ballast, call for more power. LED's use less power, smaller ballasts.
Think of Halogen has your old Tube TV (Sony Wega/Vega)
Think of HID as Plasma TV's - Compare to the tube tv's there was nothing like it
Think if LED's as LCD tv's. Better technology then Plasma, less power, same great output

Installing HID or LED bright whites in the fogs no longer makes them fogs.
Keep them 2800 - 3600k
You have a number of options...
or...
Or Light Bar fog beam.

For foul weather, controlling the light pattern is what makes a good set of lights. Dropping HIDs or LEDs into your stock housing will very likely make your fog lights useless for Gould weather. The housings were designed for halogen bulbs, which emit light in a very specific way, throwing HIDs or LEDs into the same reflector housing, although 'brighter' usually results in a lot of stray light that gets reflected off fog, snow or heavy rain and back at the driver. All you'll see is a wall of whatever color HID or LEDs you dropped in there.
I would go with either Nokya or Putco 3000K halogen bulbs, replacement LED housings like those sold at The Retrofit Source, or aftermarket dedicated fog/foul weather lights that will give you a wide, low pattern.

Problem is nobody really has a projection style housing WITH the option for 3000k bulbs. Which would be ideal. Get a new housing for projection and install LED/HID bulbs...
My manufacturer does tell me that they can get me 3000k temp but the cost would be more, i'm still inquiring about it. I now my fog light LED's work great in our stock housings, but I don't have 3000k

I'd need to see the details on them. There are a lot of generations/variations of LED bulbs right now... I sell the latest/greatest. Those look like an earlier generation. I'll check them out if you can get me a direct link
