Default Anyone tried LED Headlight bulbs yet?

I've heard about these in a couple places, but have never known someone who has actually used them.. Any reviews?

Ugggh... I wish I could edit titles. Mods, please feel free to correct my typo of "Anyone," please and thanks.

Howdy!

Seriously? Don't be silly, lol - they are junk.

Overrated junk.
Dangerous junk.
Cheap junk.

Solve for all values of 'junk'.

The ad implies 1,800 Lumens.
Standard Halogen is 1,000 lo beam, 1,500 hi beam.

https://www.sylvania.com/en-us/appli...partnumber=H13

So it is possible to have more light but how well it comes out of the headlight fixture and the color temperature is far more important than lumen output when it comes to how well you can see using your headlights.

Yep.

Ad implies (and specs state) 1800 Lu on 'high beam'. Which means with both LEDs operating. So low beam will be ~900 lumens which is worse than stock halogens.

What is worse - it's not about the total lumens, it's the MSCP (candlepower) on target that is key - with these not being compatible with the stock relectors incorrect focal point), there is no way for this is ever going to happen...

Heatsinking also looks totally inadequate for this alleged power level for continuous use.

Crooks

TRS is actually going to release something similar to this in the upcoming summer. They claim to push high lumens but I'll put them to the test in a side by side comparison.

Have you any experience at all with this product?

We've sold a couple dozen sets at our shop and they work quite well.

Yes.

It was returned (for a restocking fee, which I factored into my testing costs).

Stock reflectors require emitter location precision on the order of +/-0.25 mm or better. This is well-known. These pieces of junk were over an order of magnitude from that. Hence the horrific beam pattern, glare and poor actual MCSP results on-target were not surprising. Couple that with the overrated output, and you have The poster child for how NOT to design and execute effective LED headlights.

All you need to do is look at a 10w BMW X5 LED fog assembly - the heatsinking for that unit is about 5 times as massive as the heatsinking on these sorry excuses for engineering. There is NO WAY the emitters can run at the advertised rated output and live. And they don't.

My condolences to yer poor uninformed / misinformed customers.

You should be ashamed of yerself for selling this garbage. But - I reckon you also sell PnP HID's, so you actually care little for results, just profit. I may be wrong here - and if so, I apologize. But yer reply connotes no testing was performed on your part.

Of course - in that vein, folks accustomed to PnP lighting would find no fault here. One cheap beer tastes purty much like any other Yak **** Lite to non-discerning palettes. That would explain yer response, I'd wager.

MGD out.
