If you have quality ballasts they will be waterproof. Otherwise, behind the valance above the bumper stays pretty dry. Make sure to use dielectric grease on all connections.

Default All Things HID???

Been reading through all these replies, but I haven't yet found an answer to my question. Or maybe I'm just missing the answer...entirely possible after 184 pages. So just a quick question, does anyone make an OEM style, DOT approved, (almost) direct swap, all in one HID kit for the 04-08 F150s that are like the Ford HIDs that are in my 2011 Edge?

Ford does Other then that, no... nobody has a legal DOT/LED setup that I'm aware of outside of the OEM Manufacturers (at least a conversion kit that is, there are direct replacement bulbs for the OEM systems)

Nope, not for 04-08s. Ford didn't do oem HIDs on trucks until 2009. You can do a retro for a couple hundred bucks in a weekend that will look factory and work better though.

If Ford does, please post the link... They didnt start OEM hid until 2013, which you can get the crappy harness and put them in halogen equipped 09-14.

Sorry eyecandy, but you are dead wrong in this case, bi-functional HID headlamps were offered by Ford as early as 2011, the 2011 Ford Edge Limited and Lincoln MKX use 42V, mercury-free D3S bulbs with integrated igniters.

My 2011 Edge Limited has factory installed HIDs in it. Something I did not realize until I got pulled over on the Interstate the night I bought it because the State trooper noticed the HIDs. He was a bit shocked to see the neatly installed Ford modules with the DOT stamps on them. If you open the linked brochure, go to Edge Limited, and look at the Rapid Spec 301A package (pg 19), you'll note it says "Panoramic Vista RoofTM + HID headlamps + voice-activated Navigation System." http://www.ford.com/services/assets/...stalCode=55401

Even funnier, I bought it brand new in 2012 with every single possible available option and literally stole it. The 2013s were already on the lot and I ended up getting it for literally less than half of the sticker price. Absolutely no idea why it sat on the lot that long, other than the sticker price...

Yeah that I know Ford had oem hid prior to 2011, but F150 wasnt til 2013... but I read your post wrong anyway. My bad... You would need to do a full retrofit. You can get better parts aftermarket from Theretrofitsource.com, but there is no factory hid swap for 04-08.

After reading through 184 pages, I was reading things wrong as well.

I really love the HIDs on the Edge, but after getting pulled over for having legal HIDs I'm just not sure its worth it to even try on my 150. It's a shame no one makes a compliant conversion kit because I really don't want to become one of those people I hate to meet on the highway.

If you got a set of aftermarket oem style headlights, probably around $100 (because aftermarket are not permaseal, but Im not sure if oem 04-08 are permaseal or not, anyway, non permaseal are much easier to open up) you can get a mini H1 full kit and they mount with a nut thru the bulb hole, cant really get any easier to mount, for around $300 with everything you would need, you would have a very nice set of lights.

I can't quite stomach reading through 100 pages to find an answer

With that said, what's generally considered to be the best aftermarket HID option? I have a 2010 Lariat that I'd like to outfit. I'd also like to replace the fog lamps that have had their connections corroded.
