Default Need Some VLED Clarification Please!

I have a 2012 with the '13 OEM HID conversion. I'm trying to install VLED Front turn signal switchbacks/DRL.

I've spent several hours searching the internet and this site, and I can't figure out up from down with all of the relay vs resistor vs adapter discussions.

When I turn my truck on, my front blinkers are on, so I have DRLs activated I guess. It's been like that since I bought it several weeks ago.

When I installed my VLEDs and turn the ignition to ACC, everything works beautifully! The amber blinkers work right, when I turn on the headlights the DRLs dim. When I crank the truck it all goes to hell in a hand basket. If i hit the blinker with just the the running lights on, the light goes out and i get the hyperflash but bulb isnt blinking. If i have the headlights on and hit the blinker the amber will blink one time then the light will go out.

I have read that I need a resistor, I have also read that it is plug n play from VLED, and then I've also read on the VLED website that they don't work at all with 2010+ F150s.

I pulled the bulb out of the factory blinker socket, and plugged in the VLED adapter to harness.

Does anyone on here have this same setup that works?

I think I can help you with this. Assuming you have the VLED tritons, there is a fix that works. See here.

Basically, I've worked w/VLEDs over the past year to discover a fix that works for those of us who have DRLs activated and would like to use their switchbacks. If it isn't available yet through their site it soon will be.

Relay package with resistor and battery cabling. Let me know if you have any further specific questions, glad to help!

Thanks for the response terraformer!

So if I didn't have the DRLs activated already the V3 Tritons would work as plug n play?

It doesnt seem like it should be such a huge feat to have the white leds active with the DRL circuit, and have the amber lights activated with the turn signal wire. if the resistor issue is now built in with the triton v3s like it seems, what's causing all of these errors?

It looks like vled is adding a resistor to the ground wire from the post you made terraformer. Are you able to explain the problem/issue with DRLs?

I can't speak for what happens w/this system for non-DRL trucks, only those w/DRLs enabled.

The issue we were having was that the white would randomly blink to amber and then back. Like at least once every two minutes or so. It seems that the OBC is very sensitive to power draws and saw the Triton as drawing too little power causing it to blink. VLEDs said that most other vehicles don't have the problem the F-150s are having, but we didn't know what to do.

So they sent me various fixes over a period of several months, including trying various resistors in-line and trying different connections, and we finally arrived at this solution. But I know this fix works, I've had it on the truck for a few weeks now and no blinking.

Props to VLEDs for working with us on the issue tho. They said from the start that they were committed to finding a fix, and they stepped up. I had to keep bothering them via email though, but we're one of hundreds of applications so I can understand it. I also talked them into giving me a large discount on their 21 SMD red LED tails, which I installed and am very happy with (requires 1 3ohm resistor on each side).

Makes sense. I did manage to isolate the dim feature as being the problem. Thanks for the info!

Just got off the phone with vleds. The relay modules should be ready to ship within 2 weeks. Supposedly it tells the f150 computer there is no bulb change and handles everything through the additional plug n play relay. Should fix all f150 DRL/switchback problems.

Thanks for all of your hard work to make the vled upgrade possible for all of us, terraformer!

What is this new kit going to be called and do you have any idea on what the cost will be?
