For the DRL: the solution is to put black tape on the sensor. This way, it's always night Time!!

Default Don't kid yourself

I hear what jcain is saying, HID and OEM headlight housings are just not a good choice if you care about too much light on opposing drivers. With the way the OEM cans are engineered I can completely understand. I do not hit the brights every time I see a car or truck who has made this change (HID in OEM headlights), so just becuase you are not getting many people hitting you with their brights does not mean it is still not not distracting.

If you really want to see how bad those combinations can be, wait till it rains and you have the additional reflexition from the water on the pavement.

I certainly understand the money issues and how you would really like to get better lights now, but completely agree with waiting for the correct combination that is a little more expensive, but much safier for everyone around you. If you look at the wait times in order to get your headlights retrofitted with HID projectors from either of the two excellent providers mentioned on this site, you will have plenty of time to save up for this better combination after the intial deposit.

My understanding is that anything over about 4700k is cutting down the amount of useable light. You might be getting some cool colors and yes the amount of light output over the OEM headlights is better, but I would have to assume that the reason most would want to go down this road would be for the most useable light you can get for the money.

The 04-08 is a black/smoke plastic bubble on the top of the dash near the windshield on the driver's side, I'd expect your 12 is similiar.

Indeed it is. The bump between the dash tray and the windshield is the promised land.
