What's the max tt I can tow with this truck
I'm looking for a truck knowing I'll need to upgrade my tt soon as kids and a dog and all the stuff are shrinking my 20' tt now. So I'm looking for a v8 5.0 with towing package and 3.73's as I'd rather not deal with any potential issues with the eb's during years of trucks I'm looking at 2012-14, so I'm looking at 2012 fx4's or rarer to find 13-14's xlt's with 3.73. My budget puts me at about 26k for the truck because there'll be tax, title etc putting the truck at 28k plus. So looking at tt's what's the max weight I should be looking for to be safe so I can focus my looking so I don't over expend the truck. And as far as payload In the truck there will be about 700#'s now with me, wife, kids who will grow as they're only 3 and 5 yrs old plus a 40 lb dog. It'll be a bumper pull tt so I also have to figure tongue and hitch weight too with a wdh and sway system plus gas etc. let me know if I'm missing anything here

preferably 6500# or less with a XLT 3.73 5.0. i dont know if ford made and 5.0 super crew HDPP but if they did thats ur ticket.
honestly thou, if you found a 2014 3.5 eco xlt max tow with the 7700 gcwr id jump on it as itll put all day long and have a higher payload. but if 5.0 is a must then a lightly optioned XLT witll net the most payload with decent options

Depends on what options you need. Check for stx 4x4s. Other than power seats its a lightly optioned xlt with rubber floors and has higher payloads. They have power windows, doors, mirrors are electic and heated. The seats are the xlt cloth but no power although they have manual lumbar support adjustment.

In this case,
1607 - 700 family - 50 for kids future wt. gain - 40 dog - 100 wt. dist. hitch = 717 remaining for tongue weight.
717/0.13 = 5515 lb. loaded camper (Assumes 13% tongue wt.)
300 lbs. water
40 lbs. propane
46 lbs. battery
300 lbs. grills, tools, jacks, hoses, power cords, chairs, fans, etc.
300 lbs. for food, toiletries, other junk
50 lbs for clothes and linens
986 lbs. of stuff
You have to estimate how much stuff you will bring. But you're already camping in the 20 ft. camper, so surely you have already taken it across the scales and know how much stuff you bring.
5515 - 986 = This leaves 4529 for "dry weight".
My toy hauler is carrying 2295 lbs. of cargo. About 1000 lbs. of that is motorcycles and tools. Because it is a toy hauler, I can move most of the cargo to wherever I want it. I was able to get the tongue weight down to 10.7%.
Payload is king. The 5.0 will tow a 5500 lb. camper just fine, but you'll have to be careful not to overload the chassis or the rear axle and exceed the GVWR or the GAWR. Look here for GCWR limits. http://www.fleet.ford.com/towing-guides/
2014 GCWR limits.

I've been very pleased with my '12 EB. Our TT is about 6200 loaded and gvwr of 6700 and thought I know the truck could handle more probably wouldn't want to go beyond what I pull now. That being said we have also pulled through lots of 10k+ passes and long distance vacations
