Default What hitch for this rig?

2013 F150 2WD Scab 5.0

Truck payload is 1695 per sticker.
Trailer hitch is 780 empty per mfg.
Trailer weight max is 7800 fully loaded, 6240 empty.
Trailer length is 31 ft.

Question is what WDH is best for this setup?

Assuming a wet and loaded trailer weight of 7,500 pounds, your tongue weight will probably be about 975. Plus if you haul anything in the bed behind the rear axle, add that to your hitch weight. So you want a WD hitch rated for 1,000 or 1,200 pounds. The 1000-pound hitch weight rating would work if you promise to never haul anything in the bed behind the rear axle, but 1200 is the one I'd buy.

Rule one is that you do NOT want a cheap hitch. If you find a new WD hitch for less than $500 online discount price, then it's a cheap hitch. The good WD hitches with good sway control all cost over $500. Cheap hitches are made by Reese, Curt, Husky and several other outfits. Ignore all of them. But Reese and Husky also make good hitches. I'd pick one of the following:

Reese Strait-Line trunnion

Husky CenterLine

Blue Ox SwayPro

Equal-I-Zer (or the similar Reese SC)
