Moving to a 7k or 7.5k tandem trailer would be a good idea. Not good to be too close to the edge.
I moved a Boomer 30 with a hoe and FL from NW NJ to north central NC with my '09. I used a 7k landscaper's trailer with the tail gate like you have and 800 lb bars w/o sway controls other than that built into the F150. I do have the MPG in my log - 11.7. I cannot recall the axle weights but everything was even and level. The rig got eyeballed by VA and NC State Police but I was not pulled over. I had no worries if they had.
I was wondering how that single axle was doing with the tractor.
It was doing not bad at all....until I added the hoe. That's when it's limit was reached. A limit I was not comfortable with so picking up the 7000 lb tandem trailer tuesday morning!
I don't know what the rules are in BC but in Ontario for a truck and trailer combo that heavy would need annual safety's on your truck and trailer
Not here. I'm within the "advertised" combined weight rating....and within all the other weight ratings. The reason I'm going to the larger GVWR trailer is to keep everything within weight ratings. I do know that here in BC, even if your holiday trailer is over 10,000 lbs, you need a "rider" on your Class 5 license to be able to pull or drive that setup. Wonder how many actually do? lol
I'm at 750 lbs tongue weight, 50 lbs under my rear axle weight....only went down an inch on the rear. The trailer, when hooked up weighs 1000 lbs under GVWR and tows like a dream!!!!! It's 2 feet longer which allows the tractor to be within the trailer dimensions , not hanging over the front like I had to before. I am the happiest trailer owner right now.....I'm driving down the road without a jitter....no sway...tracks straight and narrow! A comfortable drive. Just got in from a job....feel good and tired. The only thing I have to do is lengthen the ramps by about 6" to help the hoe clear the ramps.
