Okay, this is where it is important to know what your tongue weight is.
Let's say your trailer trims out @ 6500 lbs. 10% of that is 650 lbs
1000 lbs spring bars are going to be too stiff for your application. It will remove a progressiveness that WDHs usually have in mind when designed. They can really contribute to unpredictable handling.

So and yes, it takes time to weigh. And yes, you may **** off a few truck drivers. But oh well, you're spending your money like they do. An let's face the real truth, truck drivers had held you up far longer than you will ever hold them up. As important to the economy as they are, they collectively are always blocking one's way.
As far as the power jack is concerned, that battery should be up to the task at storage long enough to get hitched up several times. Just make sure you are disconnecting the battery when you get it to storage. If the battery is not holding up to at least 5-6 minutes of jack power, get a new battery. Almost always, the one provided by the dealer has been beat to death before you get it home. Also, the truck has a charging circuit built into the trailer plug. Just keep it connected to the truck whenever you can.

I solely rely on the tongue jack to position tongue height when hitching.

What part of Michigan are you in? That is my favorite state to recreate.
