We'll need another thread called "Show em off! Post pictures of your girlfriends!" ... might need some heavy moderating.

Just picked up a 1978 Casa Vegas 23' long trailer this past weekend. First time hauling something so large with the new truck, and I was quite pleased with how well it handled. Once up to speed I could even forget it was back there! Most importantly for me though, I could still stop in a reasonable distance.

Now I just need to look into a weight distributing hitch, and see what other mods I will need to add like tougher brake pads/rotors. Advice is welcome from you diehard towing champs, but I plan to start a new thread with more details on what I have and want to do.

R1 Concepts brakes are some of the best. A lot of raptor guys run them and love them. That's what I'll be running when the time comes. As far as the WDH, I would just throw some Firestone Ride Rite air bags on it and call it good.

I had the same thought with the R1 brakes, but my brakes are in good shape, and we stopped pretty darn quick, so that is a 2nd string mod at this point in time.

My primary thought for the WDH would be that it would reduce trailer sway while traveling on the highway as well as level out my truck properly. I am familiar with towing small trailers, but nothing this large, so I just want to make sure I am safe while I have my family in the cab with me.

I will look into the air bags, as I would also like to increase my payload so I have the option of putting my motorcycle in the bed and still haul the trailer. I am not sure if airbags are the best option, or if adding a leaf is better, or even if both would be advised for my plans.

After lunch I will try to post a new thread giving my specifics and asking you fine gentlemen for advice.

100 people are going to tell you that air bags don't increase payload capacity. What they will do is allow you to haul your bike in the bed and not have your headlights pointing into the eyes of oncoming traffic.

I'm going to be setting my truck up to tow a travel trailer as well. I've towed hundreds of different truck, trailer and load combinations in the last ten years. Not to mention the semis I drive occasionally. And I will tell you that tounge weight isn't your enemy in most cases. Sway has a lot to do with how the trailer itself is loaded, too much weight in the back will cause an unsafe swaying condition. When I set up my truck it will have AALs in the rear with airbags. Not sure what trailer I will be buying yet, but it will be a bumper pull between 6000-7500 lbs.

Thank you for taking the time to educate me! This is why I come here before I start browsing on amazon or go into a shop and look like a squid with no business owning a trailer.
