Default Upgrade 4 pin to 7 pin

hello ive got a 2017 xlt 5.0 that has a factory 4 pin hookup. I’d like to change it to a 7 pin so I can add a brake controller in the future. What do I need to make the switch? I saw that the 4 pin harness plugs in to a connector under the spare tire; is it as simple as replacing that harness with a 7 pin one? Is there anything under the hood that needs to be changed or added? Any computer changes needed? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Depends on how you want it to work. If you want it to be like factory for 2017, you'll need to swap or modify several wiring harness sections, in addition to buying some parts & changing some settings.

If you want it to work like older ones, you'd just need to add a few wires/fuses/relays, buy a brake controller, & swap the connector. This shows the older wiring:
