4 gauge is not necessary for 30 peak amps, the circuit is fused for 30 with 16 gauge, if Ford fused it wrong.....I'm not even going there. It's fine. And mine certainly was not 16 gauge when I last looked, unless they have changed that.
This isn't complicated, as I stated you set the current MAX at 30, and then keep lowering it until it doesn't pop the truck fuse.

I am holding a 16 AWG wire. The orange wire is the 12V wire in the 7 pin harness.
