Divide your wheelbase length (in inches) by 5. That is approximately the maximum length to consider. So, 145 inch WB would be 29 feet.
Forget that maximum trailer weight. The thing you need to be most concerned about is your payload capacity. That is almost always the limiting factor. Out of your payload capacity comes: passengers, dog, cargo in bed, and tongue weight of trailer.
Published dry trailer weights are misleading. Add 1,000 pounds to the dry trailer weight. That will be close. Your tongue weight will be about 15% of the trailer weight.
Don't push your luck with too much trailer.
