transmission temp gauage sender and line matain port
so I have a 99 ford f150 4x4 ext cab, XLT with the 4.6 v8. i'm thinking about getting a camper trailer, so I have the class 4 trailer hitch, brake assist, and trailer wiring.
I've also been told that its a good idea to put in a tranny temp gauge. so while I was looking up how to install that I found an article that says the maintenance port is the place the sender goes, here's where it gets iffy. one article says get an adapter and don't put the sending until in the maintenance port because stuff can hit it. another says put the sender directly into the port.
which is correct?
also I have found many articles that vary on the amount of weight I can pull. one says max 7700 one say 6800, the bumper says 5000 max(which yeah is because its the bumper). I have the 5.33 not LS gears anyone have a "don't go over this many pounds" suggestion.
thanks

It depends on the length of the probe on the sender and which transmission you have. Is it a 4R100 or 4R70 ?
I am assuming you meant 3.55 axle ratio.

It is the 4R70W. I am not familiar with the test port on that trans. I have rebuilt a few 4R100's. You can remove the test plug, you shouldn't lose any, or much fluid, and check the depth of the passage inside before ordering the sender/gauge.
