Tranny Temp guage

I suppose I could have stopped to figure that out. Thanks for pointing it out though. I've been without a truck for the last three years and have become really spoiled by my golf tdi mileage but I'm looking to start pulling a travel trailer and don't think the golf will cut it.

This past weekend pulling my toyhauler fully loaded (~8,000 lbs) up to Payson, AZ from Mesa, AZ, I saw temps reach 226* on the ascent. My house is around 800 ft elevation, Payson is about 5,000 over the course of 68 miles. Ambient external temp was 100* when I left. Coming back down I never saw anything over 215*. I believe anything up to 230/240 is safe, but from what I understand the truck will put you into de-power mode if temps on anything get too hot. On the second pass (Mt Ord) a coolant temperature message popped up on my dash letting me know my truck was decreasing power to decrease engine temps...which was kind of irritating, because the analog temp gage was just a hair to the right of the middle position. It was nowhere near the hot side, but just a smidge to the right of middle, whereas normally it's a smidge to the left of middle. Overall though, it pulled very well (3.5 10spd), despite 6mpg on the way up @ 68-70mph.

Why would you read the manual?
None of the good stuff like.....
Which plug to unplug under dash to disable start-stop, How to recalibrate Fuel Mileage readout or enter "Engineering Mode" to monitor other parameters are even in there.
