Trick question.

You need one more gear before you go fast enough to need trailer brakes.

I'm really concerned about your payload... It's difficult to make out the details from the pic, but I'm pretty sure that's not the HDPP frame and I'm worried you won't have sufficient payload after you add the wife, kids, two dogs, firewood, tools, some bikes, some kayaks, firepit, a generator, gas for the generator, an extra propane tank, the empty propane tank you forgot to unload from the last trip, and of course, a full tank of gas... :)

Another poor guy duped by the RV salesman......"Oh, don't worry about it, you've got plenty of bike to tow anything I have on the lot....."

should i upgrade to the "fat" tires? will that up my payload?

Well... I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but changing your tires, suspension, axle, etc... Will not change your payload... I mean, you might get it upgraded if you're willing to pay ford the money to reassess it... But really, with that load you should but upgrading to a B350 dually with the diesel sandles... Only way you can pull that... :)

Sorry, but fat tires add weight, taking away payload.
