Traded 150 for a 250. And loving it
Hi guys .I've posted in here before about my 2016 F150 2.7 EB .
Loved the truck! Fast, peppy, and plenty of engine power to pull our travel trailer. We have a 2017 jayco 28 foot, 6200 pounds dry. The truck can tow 7500, but with my wife, 2 kids, clothes, gear, bikes, firewood, food and beer, the gcwr was maxed. I put Timbrens on to replace the stock bump stops and they helped trailering amazingly well.
But after our last camping trip, I decided to trade it on a F250, and quick.
We drove 2 hours to the campground. It was a sunny day with winds about 5-10 coming from about the 11 o'clock direction from our heading. Easy peasy, right? Not! We were on the Ohio, then Indiana turnpike. Up to about 55mph it seemed pretty stable. But with semis passing on the left and any speed over 60, the truck seemed like it was floating and getting pushed by the camper. There was a decent amount of sway too.
The suction effect from the semi trailers vs our trailer was nerve racking , especially around curves. I was white knuckling it the whole way.
The return trip, the wind was 15-20 from our 6 O'Clock position and wasn't nearly as bad, until we made the final turn to the north for four miles and the broadside winds blew u
s all over. Max speed 40 mph.
I went that day and traded for a 2018 F250 with the 6.2 gasser.
This truck is an absolute beast and should handle much much better.
In summary, I may be a wimp or a moron, but for the safety of my family and my own sanity, this upgrade was worth it.
Certainly the 2.7 was undersized for the camper in general, however the engine performed incredibly well. It was truly amazing how well it did towing. I was getting 17 mixed and 9.2 towing on the mileage. So far the 6.2 is getting 14 in only the first day or so of ownership.
These F150 trucks are awesome and I've owned several. But for towing anything over 6-7k pounds, they just don't seem to have the *** or stability to handle it.
Just my $0.02.
Let the flaming begin

No flaming necessary... you were maxed out! You did the responsible thing! I ordered a HDPP I take delivery off Monday but I thought long and hard about a 250. I’m very curious to hear your gas mileage update... highway, around town, towing etc.
Good luck and great job putting your family first.

Congratulations on the new F250!! Great choice for what you're towing
Mchurch52 - he would have had the shorter wheelbase F150 (145). You can't get the long wheel base with the light duty 2.7 chassis.
Jamie - please continue to follow-up after towing with the F250, I'm sure others are interested. Unfortunately, the F150 you bought was not the right F150 for that trailer. Many don't realize the vast differences between F150s. Think of F150s as "F100s", "F150s" or "F200s". You went from the "F100" to the F250. Big step up and there will be a huge difference in stability when towing. Enjoy it!

I too just traded an F150 (2004) for an F250 (2015) with the 6.2. I've been consistently getting 13.5/14 mpg mixed city/highway in the 3500 miles that I've owned it.
No towing though.
