ok...so the dealer couldn't find any problems as expected. I went and got an 18' flatbed and slapped a 3,000 pound car on it (~4500 lbs.) and the truck pulled like a champ.
I went through town during rush hour in stop and go to work it out and then got on the highway bucking a head wind and it went into 6th and was able to maintain 65mph for a good portion.
I called the dealer to ask what they did, and they said nothing. They had to flash something, because now when i put the pedal to the floor you can hear the engine surge. Before if i pushed down, there was no response. Maybe they flashed the problem away, or maybe the trailers before were just too light for it to know what to do? The dealer thinks it's intermittent and that it might come back.
Oh, I also had the Max AC running during all of this, and not even the slightest smell of something burning.
