[QUOTE=Great white;5181902]The ford towing guide: http://www.fleet.ford.ca/resources/f...Tgde_Sep30.pdf does not distinguish on trim levels, just hove the chassis is equipped (axle ratios) and tow package levels (max tow, towing package, etc). That gives you your max trailer weight and your GCWR. Some things change how the chassis is equipped. For example; the max tow package gets the 9.75 rear axle vice the 8.8 in some of the other option levels. [QUOTE]

If that is true I really got ripped off. My max tow packaged 2016 does not have the 9.75" rear end.

You have a 3.5EB without a 9.75? I've heard it does happen but I've not actually seen it.

Some say all the 5.0 Trucks with 3.73 get 9.75 but some say they have seen a 8.8HD.

As far as I know the only guarantee of a 9.75 is:
2.7EB Payload Package
HD Payload Package
3.5EB w/ 8' Bed (7050 GVWR / 4050 R. GAWR)
The 8.8HD is only rated at 3850 lb.

My 14 RWD with a 3.15 had a 9.75 rear end. It didn't even have a "tow package", just a hitch and IBC.

Trim levels do affect payload (more options equals less available payload) between identical engine trucks.

However, there are many combinations of towing capacity and payload capacity between the engine and chassis specifications for any one year's of trucks, and certain engine/spring/frame thickness/axle ratio/axle weight rating options are not available on certain trim levels. Therefore there are definitely differences between trim level truck capacities, not solely because of whether it has a moon roof or not, but because of the other options that are or are not available with the trim package. For example, heavy duty payload package trucks are only available with 3.5 EcoBoost and 5.0 V8 engines, have a heavier frame and springs, and a with XL, XLT, and base Lariat trim levels. You cannot compare a 3.5 EcoBoost XLT HDPP with a 3.5 EcoBoost Platinum HDPP because there just isn't any such Platinum trim truck built.

An internet search can find these specs for almost any year of truck you want to discuss.
